flag_australia_sml.gifCountry: Australia

Height: 6’3”

Weight: 163 lbs

Date of Birth: 8/08/1978

Place of Birth: Launceston, Tasmania

Residence: Launceston, Tasmania

Pro Since: 2000

In his first season with Toyota-United, Sullivan ended 2006 with an impressive five top three placings including a win at the historic Snake Alley Criterium in Iowa, a second place finish at the Burlington Road Race (also part of the Quad Cities race weekend), and a third place at the Univest Grand Prix.

Growing up in the Tasmania, Sullivan spent a lot of time outdoors - and riding his bike was what he enjoyed most. With his father already cycling competitively, it didn’t take long for his young son to follow his lead, and by the age of nine, Sean was racing.

Training within the system of a strong Tasmanian Sports Institute, Sullivan excelled under coach Kevin Tabotta, whom he says improved his skills on the bike tremendously. The results were impressive - propelling him to the Under 19 Australian National Championship in 1996. He also credits his 2002 experience on Dutch amateur team Bloks, which was led by six-time Tour De France stage winner Jelle Nijdam and former pro Michel Cornelise, as a critical season of growth.

Sullivan is a proven competitor with a wealth of international racing experience. His strengths as a cyclist are evident in hard, flat and rolling races, as well as in team time trials and lead-outs. His favorite race is one that he has not yet entered, but hopes to ride in one day – the Tour of Flanders.

Part of his 2007 season was interrupted by knee pain which did not allow him to compete at full strength for the remainder of the summer.  Sullivan is looking forward to getting back to his winning ways and supporting his team in 2008.
