A former Florida State Criterium Champion and two-time Florida State Mountain Bike Champion, Stefano Barberi was born in Brazil where he started racing mountain bikes at the age of eight years old. Four years later, in 1996, his family moved to Florida and Barberi kept racing. By 2002, he was one of the top three junior mountain bikers in the country and qualified for the Junior Worlds Team.

Despite his success in mountain biking, Barberi sought a new challenge. In 2003, he took up road racing, competing in the Florida State Road Points Series. By the end of that year, he had made the full-time switch to road. In his first road win (as a Category 3 racer) Barberi took off on a solo breakaway and lapped the field. It is a race that remains one of his most memorable to this day. Since then, he has been consistently building his repertoire, showing his strengths as a climber and time trialist.

Last season, Barberi was instrumental in many of the team’s wins, including the Cascade Classic. He also had strong showings on his own, including the Tour de Toona where he won the Stage 2 King of the Mountain standings. He also earned Top Young Rider honors in Stage 4 at the Nature Valley Grand Prix.

As one of the youngest Toyota-United members, a focused and disciplined Barberi has proved himself to be a fierce competitor with a strong commitment to teamwork. With the ongoing support of his mother and girlfriend, Melissa, Barberi looks forward to another intense year of learning and professional growth.
