Saturn Rochester Criterium

The chasing efforts of the Toyota-United Pro Cycling Team were not enough to pull back a six-rider breakaway that lapped the field Saturday at the fourth annual Saturn Rochester Twilight Criterium.

A crowd estimated at 35,000 watched the decisive break go free in the first 10 laps of the two-hour race. Toyota-United put all five of its riders ? Stefano Barberi, Jose Manuel Garcia, Bobby Lea, Ryan Miller and Burke Swindlehurst ? on the front but the gap continued to grow.

?If things came back together, the plan was to get me in there at the finish,? Lea said. ?But the Navigators team had a stranglehold on the race. We didn?t have the horsepower in the end to get the job done.?

Hilton Clarke (Navigators Insurance) won the sprint among the breakaway riders. Lea was Toyota-United?s best finisher in 13th place.
