April 7: U.S. Open Championships Richmond, Virginia

The inaugural edition of the US Open Cycling Championships received national attention, thanks to two-and-a-half hours of coverage on NBC. The 113-mile race started in a snowstorm in Williamsburg, Va., and finished under sunny skies in the capital city of Richmond. Toyota-United figured prominently in the action throughout, putting riders in breakaways and leading a frantic, last-lap chase.

The snow had Ivan Dominguez thinking of warmer weather in Southern California.  Jose Manuel "Chepe" Garcia isn't used to seeing conditions like this in his home country of Mexico.

Stevic enjoyed the ingenuity by soigneur Reed McCalvin, who used surgical gloves as an additional insulator.  The snow reminded Justin England of many an off-season training ride in Boulder, Colo.

April 1: Garrett Lemire Memorial Grand Prix

Ivan Dominguez scored Toyota-United's 10th win of the season Sunday when he passed Russell Downing (Health Net presented by Maxxis) in the final stretch of the Garrett Lemire Memorial Grand Prix in Ojai, Calif.

Dominguez received an extraordinary last-lap leadout from teammates Caleb Manion and Sean Sullivan, but still had to close the gap on Downing to secure his seventh victory and third win at a National Race Calendar event.

Henk Vogels rode strongly, despite missing some training days last week while traveling to and from Australia.  Vogels slipped off the front with two other riders with 10 laps to go. But their move was broke back with three laps remaining.

The Toyota-United train lined up for its last-lap charge with Manion on the front and Vogels feeling it from his breakaway effort.  Dominguez on the top step of the podium ? in what is quickly becoming a common sight this year.
